Paper Bloom on TV!

You guys...  The Art of Weddings is next week!  I am getting really excited for the show.  I have everything I need for my booth and have a pretty good idea of what it will look like.  I'm putting the finishing touches on everything and will be ready for next Thursday.  Yay!

I met with Alexis of Jasmine Photography (the creator of the event) and gave her a few samples of my work to show on a segment on KOIN 6 today.  It was so exciting to see Molly & Greg's invitation up close!  That set has gotten a lot of attention, and I love it.  Molly's drawings are just so perfect and make the set unique and personal.  They didn't zoom in on it, but Brianne & Steve's invitation was also sitting on the table :)  Enjoy!

tart. logo in use!

I love to see what clients do with things I design for them.  As I mentioned a couple months ago, my good friend started a catering business called tart and hired me to design her logo & website.  She is catering a Vineyard tour & wine tasting party and snapped a few pictures with her camera to show me how things are looking.  She had a rubber stamp made and found the perfect shade of turquoise ink for the boxes, bags and labels.  I love it all and am so proud! :)

Amy & Chris' Save the Dates

A few weeks ago, I left a few Paper Bloom Studio business cards at my favorite cafe.  They had a small display near the coffee & water with cards of local businesses, and thought why not?  Just a few days later, I got an email from a very sweet bride named Amy who had stopped into the cafe for lunch and spotted my card.  I'm so glad I did that!  She has been great to work with and I can't wait for her summer wedding invitations.  We wrapped up the Save the Dates last week and they are starting to arrive in her guests' mailboxes (after she drove over to Bridal Veil with her fiancĂ© and maid of honor to have them hand cancelled– how cute!)

(Excuse the poor quality photo, I took this with my phone!)

tart.

I'm excited to share my latest project with you! My good friend Amy started a catering company called tart, and asked me to design her logo.  I was so excited about this for many reasons.  Amy is an AMAZING cook– she catered my baby shower last October and the food, and presentation, was so impressive.  She makes dinner for us and our friends often and each time designs a really special menu for the occasion.  Her tagline is classic catering with a twist, since she adds interesting and exciting ingredients to classic dishes.  I'm telling you, if you ever need a party catered, she is the girl to call!  I put together her website, so check it out at www.tartportland.com. You can also find her on Facebook!

The Art of Weddings

Big news, people–  Paper Bloom Studio was selected to be part of The Art of Weddings bridal show on January 6, 2011!  I am so excited, not just to be part of a show, but THIS show.  I planned to attend the event the past 2 years to meet vendors (and because I love weddings and anything to do with them) but was sick for the first show and just had my baby this last year.  I saw plenty of pictures and was so sad to miss out!  It's a smaller event with only 3-4 vendors of each kind.  Nothing like the huge bridal shows at the Convention Center.  I went to one of those after I got engaged, and it was extremely overwhelming.  There were photographers and designers and florists every way I turned, all with gorgeous displays and super nice people and how the heck was I supposed to choose?!  I'm glad I went but I was the wrong kind of bride for that big of a show.  Anyway...  Several months ago I found out The Art of Weddings was in January, so I marked my calendar with lots of exclamation points, determined to make it no matter what!  As I was perusing the website, I noticed the application to become a vendor.  Hmmm....  What if I attended the show... As a vendor??  I figured it couldn't hurt to apply, so I did.  For the next several weeks I researched and collected ideas for my booth, hoping I wasn't totally jinxing myself by dreaming and sketching what a Paper Bloom display would look like.  Then it happened.  I got the email from Alexis at Jasmine Photography who started the whole shabang– the subject was "You are accepted into The 2011 Art of Weddings!"  Well, hot dog! (ok, too much Mickey Mouse Clubhouse up in here).  It's really happening, and I'm stoked.  So if you're in the Portland area and planning your wedding (or just like weddings, like me......) come to the Gerding Theatre at the Armory on January 6th starting at 6:00pm!

Real Wedding: Brianne & Steve

A few months ago I posted a picture of the invitation I designed for Brianne and Steve (my brother-in-law).  The wedding was on August 14th and the photos just came back from the talented Jolie!  The photos are great and capture the beautiful wedding so perfectly.  Here are some of my favorite shots, including a few of the details I designed, and one of Yours Truly with the sweetest (and pantless) ring bearer around!

Congratulations Bri & Steve!  It was an honor being part of a wedding for such a beautiful couple.  I'm so happy you found love :)

Venue: Camp Colton
Flowers: Duet Designs
Invitations & Reception items: Paper Bloom Studio
Catering: ¿Por Que No? (the food was so good that my husband and I went to the local restaurant the day after the wedding for lunch!!)
Also I have to mention The Toasted Coconut, who made the yellow flower headband I'm wearing and the ring bearer's matching bow tie!

Piccione (Alfred Angelo) wedding gown for sale!

A past client of mine is selling a BRAND NEW wedding gown and it's an amazing deal.  She bought it for $1700 but is only asking $450!  Hello, we have GOT to find someone to buy this dress.  It needs a good home!  Here are photos and a description:

It is a size 2 Piccione (brand available through Alfred Angelo), and is style #425. The dress is white (diamond white according to the store), with a modified A-line fit and a sweetheart neckline.  It does have straps that are heavily beaded which can be worn either as a halter or as sleeveless.  Actually since it's never been altered, I imagine that a seamstress could even remove them for a strapless look.  There is also beading and gorgeous silver embroidery.  It also has a chapel length train where the embroidery continues.  It has never been worn, still in the original bag, all of the tags are still on it, and never altered. Contact Emspecht@aol.com for more info!

Guest Book poster

I love new ways to incorporate traditional elements of a wedding– such as my last post on the card catalog for escort cards, and now this idea from Martha Stewart Weddings of a Guest Book poster.  My husband and I had guests sign the matte board around a photo at our wedding, and it hangs proudly in our home.  It's still fun to look back at all the signatures and remember all the wonderful people who were there.

Card catalog for place cards?!

I saw this post on Hello Lucky's blog– what a genius idea!  Put your place/escort cards in an old library card catalog.  Love it.

Business Cards

I am obsessed with my new business cards.  I've always wanted letterpress cards but was never in love with my logo or business name, and wasn't sure it was worth the investment.  But since creating the Paper Bloom identity, I've been SO excited about it and knew letterpress was the right thing to do!

All packaged up with a few paper blooms, courtesy of SuzanneBWebb!

Sneak Peek!

My business cards are done!!  I picked them up from Julie at Studio Olivine who letterpressed them for me, and they are amazing.  She made the impression on the flowers deeper than the text which I love and am so grateful for.  Here's a sneak peek!

How I love Envelopments

Today, life just got a bit sweeter.  The Jigster has arrived!!

I've had my eyes on this baby for a long time.  I knew in my heart owning this magical tool would make assembling invitations so much easier, but I wasn't sure I'd really need it.  I do a pretty good job lining things up by eye, and I convinced myself that if I really needed a tool I could probably create my own template of sorts using scraps of matte board or cardboard boxes.  The Jigster isn't terribly expensive but every penny counts, right?  So I designed the tool in my mind, using pieces of the mismatched presentation board and chip board I have in my closet, and it didn't look great but worked the same.  And then, I got lazy.  Weeks went by.  Everything else in life became a priority.  So as much as I love my idea to make one myself and save money, I surrendered and hit the "Order Now" button.  There's a reason this thing was created– it's wonderful and well made, and just so darn pretty.  It's going to make assembling invitations quicker and way more fun than driving myself crazy after adhering each invitation to a backer card, staring at it for several minutes wondering if it's crooked or not.  Yay for Envelopments, once again making an amazing product that I'm obsessed with!

Molly & Greg's Wedding Invitation

Last year I showed photos of Molly & Greg's Save the Dates that were complete with Molly's gorgeous drawings. Their wedding invitations are finally done and the entire set is beautiful! Here's just the invitation, front and back. Once again Molly did all the drawings and they look so amazing.

Printed offset on Classic Crest Linen with a navy blue spot color & gray ink. The envelope is "night" from Paper Source, complete with wrap-around label.

Brianne & Steve's Invitations

In March I posted photos of Save the Dates for Brianne & Steve. Their invitations just went out to family and friends so I can finally post a picture! I'll eventually take photos of the whole set but for now here's their invite that just so happened to match the envelope and liner from Paper Source perfectly.

This set was printed offset on Cranes Lettra cotton paper with a teal spot color & gray ink– beautiful!

Anton Construction Logo

A few weeks ago I was hired to design a logo for an independent contractor. He wanted his identity to look nice & professional, so people would take him seriously and see how dedicated he is to his work. I came up with several concepts and he chose one that I am refining and will post when it's complete. But for now, here's an idea I had that wasn't quite what he was looking for, but it was my absolute favorite of the bunch!

I have to give my husband credit– it was his idea to add the hammer! I used that on a different concept but John suggested I toss it in here as well. I love it.

Brianne & Steve's Save the Date

This was a fun one to design– it's for my brother-in-law! Steve and his fiancĂ© Brianne wanted a simple Save the Date using a photo of them and their dog, and this is what we came up with:

This was the runner up:

I'm excited to start on their wedding invitations! Be on the look out for those in the next few months :)

Kim & Marc's Invitation

I'm back! I'm officially working on designs for 2010 weddings and can't wait to show you what I've been up to. Back in October (has it been that long?!) I showed a sneak peek of a design for Kim & Marc. Kim wanted to use a dark purple ink, and somehow incorporate her love of whimsical harlequin designs with orchids. Here's what we came up with!

I'll be back with more photos as my 2010 weddings come back from the printer!
