New logo for Fleur:ology

You all know how much I love weddings and everything about them, right?  I started designing invitations after my own wedding was over because I had total post-wedding blues.  Was I allowed to continue adding wedding blogs to my Google Reader?  Would it be crazy to attend bridal shows as a married lady?  Did I really have to cancel my subscription to Martha Stewart Weddings?!?  Luckily, just a couple months after my wedding, a friend of a friend contacted me and asked to design her invites, and ever since I've had plenty of reasons to stay involved in the wedding scene.

I absolutely adore brides and grooms and invitations and wedding stationery.  But something else I love?  Wedding vendors, and working on projects for them.  I have had the privilege of seeing some amazing people hard at work over the years.  At my wedding, at friends' weddings and other events.  Photographers, DJs, jewelers, florists...  You name the type of vendor, I probably have a favorite.  {Side note: I just added some links to my website to share this love!}  So you can imagine how excited I was for the Art of Weddings event last month, not only to meet brides and potential clients, but to chat with other wedding experts.  I love just meeting these folks and talking about the business, but it's even more fun when there's a project involved.  I made some great connections and will have some cool projects to share with you as they come about!

The first is a new logo for Fleur:ology.  Liz Rusnac, owner, came by my booth at the show and introduced herself.  Right away, I liked her.  She is passionate about what she does, extremely friendly, and talented.  Very, very talented.

She asked if I designed logos– YES please!  I was so excited to meet her for coffee and talk about rebranding her business {and our kids, and being a small business owner, and our husbands, and families, and high school, and... you get the idea– we have a lot in common!}  She had so many great ideas and we quickly settled on a clean, modern logo with a fun flower graphic {that Liz selected herself}:

I also designed some business cards that I'll share when they get back from the printer.  There are 4 different backs– a "collect all four" type o' thing!– with photographs of some of her amazing floral designs.  Love it!  So, be sure to stop by Fleur:ology's website and fan her on Facebook.  This is one woman to watch!!  Liz, it's been a pleasure :)

New website for Event Team Entertainment!

The fabulous guys over at Event Team Entertainment have a new website! My husband and I hired Shawn Whittemore as our entertainment director in 2006 for our wedding, and it one of the BEST choices we've ever made. Notice how I didn't call him a DJ? That's because that title doesn't do him justice. What exactly do you call a person who spends hours on end with you via phone, emails and meetings making sure the important details of your wedding are planned out and perfect? Someone who directs the flow of the evening while not stealing the spotlight from the bride & groom? A person who is out in the crowd at your reception, interacting with guests making sure they have everything they need and are having fun? And what the heck do you call a man who escorts the groom's grandmother to her seat when she needs a hand?!! Besides TOTALY AWESOME, I guess entertainment director is the next best title. It makes me so happy to see so many other couples singing his praises and to see his business grow. You must hire him, and that's final.

Check out Event Team Entertainment's new website and all the fun videos and pictures on there! You might see a few familiar faces ;)

Professional shots of my work

The lovely Maggie Hudson at Honeysuckle Photography took some great shots of my invitations for a postcard and website I am designing. I am so excited how they turned out and can't wait to start using them! Here's just a few of the many she took:

Gorgeous bouquets made of clay!

I read a post on weddingbee.com from Miss Pineapple who blogged about her flowers from her wedding. I saw the photos first and thought "Wow, those are gorgeous." Then I read the post and found out they aren't real-- they are made of clay!! How unbelievably cool is this?! I was SO sad the day after my wedding when the calalillies in my bouquet started to die, and even more when I realized I had gone on my honeymoon and forgot to ask someone to preserve it. I called my mom from Hawaii and she said they were starting to rot (hello, GROSS) but she did save the roses and would dry them for me. Today I'm not exactly sure where that mess of a dried bouquet is, but more than likely it was trashed because that's what it looked like... trash. Here's a pic of it on my wedding day in all it's glory:

Anyway, here are a few photos of the incredibly beautiful clay bouquets made by DK Designs. Check out her Etsy store here and her blog here.

check out some amazing wedding vendors!

i added a new sidebar with links to a few amazing vendors i've gotten to know. my husband and i hired honeysuckle photography for our wedding, and we couldn't imagine having better photos! maggie and josh (owners) were incredible to work with on our wedding day, and truly captured our love on camera. i was so lucky to work with them again this past summer when my best friend hired them for her wedding! her pictures are amazing-- check out "katie and spencer" under the slideshows at honey-photo.com. my wedding pictures aren't online anymore, but i'd be happy to email you a few of my favorites if you want to see!

we also booked shawn from event team northwest as our wedding dj, but lucky for us he was WAY more than just the average dj! he was our wedding director, and ran the whole reception. he helped things move along so smoothly, and kept our guests excited and entertained the entire night. there was never a dull moment thanks to him! he was organized and on top of every detail, something i very much appreciated!

the third vendor listed from our wedding is focal point digital media. those guys were fantastic! dan and ryan did such an incredible job of filming our wedding, and we watch our dvd all the time. i know a lot of people don't figure videographers into their wedding budget, but i'm here to tell you that you need to! we were very lucky to have amazing photographs as well, but there is something about a video that is just as important. being able to see our families and friends in action, and hearing our grandparent's voices and watching our bridal party give amazing toasts... all those things we hold so dear and love to experience over and over again. check them out and add them to your budget-- you will be so glad you did!
